Teenager Arrested in Samba with Heroin, Two Others Held

Three suspected drug peddlers, including a teenager, were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba and Kathua districts on Monday. The police intercepted the 17-year-old boy during a patrol late Sunday evening while he rode a motorcycle from Balole Khad toward JDA Colony in the Bari Brahmana area of Samba.

During routine checks, officers discovered 3.36 grams of heroin in the teenager’s possession. Authorities seized the heroin along with the motorcycle he was using, leading to his immediate apprehension.

The police lodged a case under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, enabling further legal action against the minor. After an inquiry, the teenager was presented before the local authorities and subsequently sent to the observation home in R S Pura, Jammu.

In a separate incident, police in Kathua apprehended two other individuals suspected of narcotic trafficking. Late Sunday night, officers conducting checks in the Galak area of Billawar district seized 23 grams of heroin from the pair.

Police identified the arrested suspects as Pawan Dev Singh from Majalta in Udhampur and Naresh Singh from Makwal-Ramkot in Kathua. Similar to the earlier case, law enforcement registered a case against them under the NDPS Act.

The arrest of these suspects underscores the ongoing battle against drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing authorities’ commitment to combating the narcotics trade within the region. Officials urge citizens to remain vigilant in reporting suspicious activities to help curb the prevalence of drug trafficking.
