Rahul Gandhi’s Vote Theft Allegations Target Election Commission

New Delhi, Sept 19: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made bold allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI), claiming it protects those involved in ‘vote chori’ or vote theft. His remarks were made during a press conference on Friday, following his growing concerns over alleged voter deletions, particularly focusing on data from Karnataka.

Gandhi’s Accusations of ‘Vote Chori’

Gandhi, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of overseeing practices that threaten democracy. His comments came after he intensified his critique of the ECI, stating it is an “election watchman” that fails to protect democratic processes.

Data Used to Back Allegations

During his press conference, Gandhi presented figures indicating that thousands of votes from Congress supporters in Karnataka’s assembly constituency were allegedly erased. He claimed that an alarming 6,018 votes were targeted for deletion, while in Maharashtra’s Rajura constituency, over 6,850 new voters had been added in a suspected fraudulent manner.

“The same system is responsible across various states including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. We have the evidence,” Gandhi asserted. He called upon the ECI to stop shielding electoral wrongdoers and to respond to inquiries made by the Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department.

Response from the Election Commission

The Election Commission swiftly rebutted Gandhi’s claims. In an official statement, they labeled his allegations as “incorrect and baseless,” emphasizing that no voter deletions can occur online, as Gandhi insinuated. They urged for factual clarity, asserting information is vital for maintaining trust in the electoral system.

Gandhi’s Call to Action for India’s Youth

Alongside his critique, Gandhi appealed directly to India’s youth, notably students and Gen Z, to remain vigilant against any efforts to undermine democratic ideals. He expressed confidence that this generation would take a stand against vote theft, asserting, “I always stand with them. Jai Hind!”

In a clear directive to the ECI, he insisted they fulfill their mandate to ensure fair elections, stating, “You have taken an oath to protect the Constitution; now do your job.”

Looking Ahead: More Allegations to Come

Gandhi mentioned that the current allegations are merely an introduction; more significant revelations are expected shortly concerning the operations of vote manipulation. “That is not the hydrogen bomb of our revelations yet; that will come soon,” he hinted during the press conference.

With the impending elections, the focus on integrity in the electoral process is more crucial than ever. Voter trust is essential in maintaining a healthy democratic fabric in India.
