On Monday, police in Jammu and Kashmir conducted operations that led to the seizure of over one kilogram of charas, resulting in the arrest of two alleged drug peddlers within the Shopian and Budgam districts.
Acting on specific intelligence, Police Station Zainapora registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act and secured a search warrant from the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian.
A team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) Zainapora, in coordination with the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, conducted a raid at the residence of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Humhuna Nagbal.
“During the search, police recovered one kilogram of a charas-like substance along with a grinder machine allegedly used to process contraband. Sheikh is currently absconding, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend him,” stated a police spokesperson.
In a related operation, another police team from Police Post Wachi apprehended a suspect at a checkpoint in Naghard Wachi. The man, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Hassan Sheikh from Pombia Kulgam, was discovered with 101 grams of charas-like substance.
This incident led to the registration of a fresh case, FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act, at Police Station Zainapora, highlighting the proactive measures taken by the authorities against drug-related crimes.
Meanwhile, in a parallel operation in Budgam district, police detained another suspected drug peddler during naka checking at Checkpora Kralpora. The arrested individual, Moomin Qadir Dhobi, son of Gh. Qadir Dhobi of Dharambugh Kralpora, was found with 112 grams of charas-like substance.
A case, FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act, has been registered at Police Station Chadoora. Investigations into both cases are ongoing, as authorities remain vigilant in their fight against narcotics.
